Title: Decentralized Renewable Energy (DRE) – the green energy solution for rural Bangladesh

Abstract:
Bangladesh has total power generation capacity of 18,958 MW including 2.95% share from Renewable Energy (RE) sources (SREDA). In 2008, GOB adopted a dedicated RE policy to promote and foster the renewable energy development with a target to have at least 2000 MW power from RE by 2020.
The demand for power is continuously growing and hence the most appropriate, suitable and practical solution is the renewable sources, especially Solar Energy. In order to further accelerate RE deployment in Bangladesh, implementation of Solar Park and engagement of Solar Rooftop are the most viable options in engaging the private sector. Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) Solutions are designed to improve access and productive usage of energy for people living in remote and rural areas of the country. Energy is harnessed via isolated devices and systems for household and other productive uses. Rahimafrooz Solar has designed and implemented many such applications in rural Bangladesh till date.
