Workshop on Structural Health Monitoring of Civil Engineering Structures

AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY-BANGLADESH (AIUB)
Workshop on Structural Health Monitoring of Civil Engineering Structures
Organized By: Faculty of Engineering, AIUB

About AIUB

American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) is a top and renowned university of Bangladesh located at Kuratoli Road, Kuril, Bangladesh. It offers several degree programs at graduate and undergraduate level from four faculties, particularly in the field of engineering studies. AIUB envisions promoting professionals and excellent leadership catering to the technological progress and development needs of the country.  Since the commencement of its journey in 1994, AIUB has progressed by leaps and bounds both as an institution and the programs it delivers to the students. The focus here is to impart quality education and to train the students to become leaders of tomorrow in their chosen fields.

Workshop Objectives

Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is a multidisciplinary technology devoted to development and implementation of methods and systems that realize inspection and damage detection by integration with structures. The aim of this workshop is to advance the theory and application of Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) systems and methodologies in civil engineering infrastructure as a service to the engineering profession and Society members at large. Seminar aims to promote the application of SHM technologies to assure public safety and the structural safety of civil infrastructure related to various engineering disciplines. Extensive knowledge of SHM shall lead to a clear understanding of risk and reliability assessment of structures, which is currently mandatory for structures of strategic importance like bridges, offshore structures etc. Workshop deals with both elementary and applications of SHM along with details of case studies in lab scale. The workshop is also intended to promote communication exchange and cross-fertilization between multiple disciplines.

Workshop Outline

  • An introduction and brief history of Structural Health Monitoring (SHM)
  • Performance evaluation of an existing structure
  • Provide a systematic approach to SHM process
  • Applications and discuss current state of the technology in Bangladesh
  • Procedure of active vibration control of structures
  • Overview on Signal Processing basics
  • Application of Digital Signal Processing (DSP) in SHM & Geotechnical testing
  • Signal processing for identification for predominant period identification of soil
  • Introduce the concept of damage detection
